ico The history
Dongshan was an undeveloped hill land until the Zheng Cheng-Gong era. Zheng Cheng-Gong brought in settlers from Zhangzhou and Quanzhou of Fujian Province; these people settled in the plain areas of Dongshan; however, in Qianlong Period Qing Dynasty, some Soulangs of the Sirayas also migrated to the hillsides of the Donghe Village. In Qing Dynasty, the population of Han settlers grew and the Hans began to have close exchanges with the Sirayas – in the forms of trades as well as marriages. New tribes began to form and the township began to grow. In the Japanese era, Sinying was the administration center of the area and Dongshan had a close relationship with Sinying. Postwar, the growth of Dongshan slowed down and came to a halt. Dongshan Township developed from the Duoluoou Fortress of Jhuluo County in Qing Dynasty to a branch of Yanshuei Port and Village of Barbarians of Sinying Prefecture. Postwar, the Republic Government changed the disrespectful name into Dongshan Township.

picico Senwho Holiday Farm:
Located in Nansi Village of Dongshan Township, Senwho Holiday Farm spans across 52 hectares of lands bordering most famous spots in the area. In a standalone hill, this farm is secluded in tranquility yet has a wide angle view of hills and forests. The air, the hills, and trees dress up in different styles in different seasons. The top of the hills is a terrace; standing on the top, you will see the Dadong Mountain (Pillow Mountain) at north, Kantou Mountain at northeast, Erjian Mountain at east, and Niougong Hills at south. From the ridge line, you will see the canvass of Jianan Plain at north, and the view reaches as far as Dongshan and Sinying on clear days. Look to the west; you will see the nearby villages dressed in red roofs in a mystical utopia.

picico Coffee Orchard:
In the mountains behind Siangong Temple at Nansi Village, Mr. and Mrs. Huang Shi-Xian studied the coffee beans for 20 years. It is now a product of mass production. picico Shueiyun Village:
I. The Ghost Cave: this cave is in the secluded Shueiyun Village (the village of water and clouds). Such tranquility, it is hard for the visitors to imagine how prosperous this place had been when it was a bustling town of natural gas mining. Imported fuels replaced natural gas – the prosperity shifted away and left this town undisturbed.
II.Flying Child: This spot is at the top of the village, part of the Dadong Mountains. Hills and forests seclude this place into a paradise.

picico Sikou Little Switzerland:
Search for the whirlpool in Sikou – you will be amazed how the water of Cengwen Creek could go up to Shanhu Lake (Coral Reef Lake). The whirlpool Sikou is just that interesting. Famed as the little Switzerland, the garden village of Sikou is a perfect place for picnic and camping. The famous Sky-Well Whirlpool is basically a manmade facility to drain water into Shanhu Lake; nonetheless, the wonder of human technology will still amaze you.
