icoWhat you have to know
ico Surroundingspic

The town of Gueiren is located at the southern tip of Tainan County. To its east is the town of Guanmiao, and to the west is Rende. North is Yongkang City and the town of Sinhua. The southern border is the Er’ren stream of the town of Alian in Kaohsiung. East to west, Gueiren is narrow, but north and south it is long and deep. It belongs to the Jianan Plain and Er’ren Stream area. The terrain is flat and there are no mountain slopes, hills, or major rivers. The water supply is not particularly good, and there is more dry farmland than paddy field.

Gueiren's old name is Red Tile House, because residents always used red tiles for their roofs in early times. At that time, most residents lived in straw houses. We can say that Gueiren residents had a much better environment for living then. Today’s Gueiren still maintains its ancient appearance.
Gueiren is located at the southernmost tip of Tainan County. It is on the southeastern part of Jianan Plain and belongs to the Er'ren Stream area. To the east is the town of Guanmiao, and to the west is Rende. The south shares a border with Alian and Lujhu in Kaohsiung County. The north connects with Yongkang City and the town of Sinhua. Jhongshan Road passes through it from east to west, and Jhongjheng Road does the same from north to south. The two roads meet at Gueiren Circle, the only circle on Nanguan Road. The successful construction of Longci Road made Gueiren a stepping-stone to  Neimen and Cishan in Kaohsiung. Thus, the town of Gueiren has become the place in Tainan County that has the most sightseeing potential.

ico Renshou Temple: pic
Renshou Temple was popularly called Dadaogong. According to Taiwan Prefecture records, this temple was built in the Zheng Chenggong period of the Ming Dynasty. It worships the Baosheng God. In the Ming Dynasty 300 years ago, Wu Jiushan, who was Zheng Hongkui’s subordinate, came to Taiwan with Zheng Chenggong. To pray for safe passage by sea, they brought a golden statue of the Baosheng God from Tongan County of Fujian Province to Taiwan. At the beginning, it was worshipped in the Wu residence. Then a divine manifestation took place, and the local people thought that the god should have a temple to stay in. So, Wu Jiushan started collecting donations to build the temple. In 1724, during the Qing dynasty, 2 wing-rooms were added to the building and it began to appear more complete.

ico Temple of Confucius:
The Dunyuan Sage Temple on Jhongsiao Road is the only place to worship Confucius in Tainan County.

ico The Gueiren Excellencies Temple: pic
Baoxi Daitian prefecture was once called the Excellencies Temple. It is for the worship of the three lords Chi, Zhu and Li. People said it was a branch of the Excellencies Temple of Dongmen, Tainan. It is the earliest and biggest of the three-lords temples. It is not known now exactly when it was founded, but because the Jintang Temple in Jiali has a part of its numinous force from the Gueiren Excellencies Temple, we can know the foundation of the latter must be some time in the Zheng Chenggong period of the Ming Dynasty.

ico Lobster Pool:
Lobster Pool is located close to Wanfang Factory. Follow the path across from the left side of the factory, and you will get there in about 5 minutes. You can see a big pool in an awn and sugarcane garden. It’s Lobster Pool. It is square in appearance, like a huge green sail, full of rhythm. There is a water path on the west that leads to an old house. Now the old house is buried, as is the path. It stands aloof from the world, in lonely beauty.

ico World Snake Educational Farm: pic
You don’t need to go to Thailand to see snakes. There are many more varieties here than in Thailand. There are cobras, huge pythons, huge fresh-water turtles, and river turtles weighing hundreds of pounds. An alligator weighing well over a thousand pounds is not unusual here. There are also many other strange animals.

ico Mingji Fried Rice Cakes: pic
Local people love Mingji Fried Rice Cakes because they are both cheap and good. One piece is only 5 NT, so you don’t need much money to be full. The maker, Mr. Huang, insists on making them the traditional way. The flavor is genuine and the aroma is charming, with no additives. You feel safe eating them. That’s why local people love them so much.

ico Stir-fried Ground Rice: pic
Yang Jinxue’s Stir-fried Ground Rice is quite famous in Gueiren. Local people don’t call Yang by her name or refer to her as the boss’s wife, but instead refer to her as “Mifan Guizi” to acclaim her skill at cooking. Stir-fried Ground Rice with meat broth is a tradition, something eaten by those who really know how to eat.  The meat broth is made from meat, fish paste, potato powder, dried fish, Chinese cabbage, and mushrooms. It makes the Stir-fried Ground Rice taste smoother. pic

ico Xie Qingshou Oyster Porridge:
Oyster porridge should be a seaside specialty. However, the oyster porridge sold in Gueiren Market has been popular and praised by the local people for over forty years. It’s called Xie Qingshou Oyster Porridge.
