Dr. Chang-Yi Liuo, Professor, Institute of Information Sciences, Academia Sinica, and the assistants found ancient coins, nails of the boats, and bricks from the Manchu Dynasty. It is the ruins of the Old Madou Port which was the only Daofong inland sea in Taiwan. The folktales “Breaking the Geomantic Omen of Dorgan's Throat” and “the Emperor from Madou” add the legendary stories to this famous tourist attraction.
Tainan County Mayor Mr. Huan-Jhih Su proposed The Park of Madou Port Ruins Project to conserve the valuable historical and geographical ruins. He received the assistance from the Council for Cultural Affairs (CCA), and authorized Institute of Taiwan History and Institute of History and Philology (Academia Sinica) to undertake the Investigating the Ruins likely to be the Old Madou Port and the Historic Investigation Research Project. It was the beginning of digging the Old Madou Port Ruins, and the cultural and historical relics were found. Taiwan President Mr. Shui-Bian Chen inspected Shueijiaotou Ruins and found the ruins were culturally and historically valuable. Tainan County Mayor Mr. Huan-Jhih Su directed Tainan County Government to undertake the Park of Madou Port Ruins Project. The Park of Madou Port Ruins is located on the center of the area. The modified canals and the rebuild port will restore the Old Madou Port.
The beginning designed area of the Park of Madou Port Ruins is around 3 hectare (with the financial assistance of NT$ 3,490,000 from the Council for Cultural Affairs). The integrated design is to restore the Old Madou Port with Museum of Madou Port Ruins (as the entrance imagery) in the left and the Park of Shueijiaotou Ruins the near Dragon-Phoenix Lake in the right. Tainan County Government also announced that the Old Canals of Madou Shueijiaotou Ruins was the excavation at county level to conserve the cultural resources.
