Rende Township

What you must know

 Environment

Rende Township is located in the southwestern corner of Tainan County, sharing borders with Gueiren Township to the east, Hunei and Lujhu townships of Kaohsiung County to the south across Er’ren River, Yongkang City to the north and Tainan City to the West, in an uneven shape that is long north to south and narrow across. Apart from some hills in the western area, the area is generally low and flat. The main rivers include Sanye River and Wudimiao River, both flowing north to south through the township into Er'ren River, and eventually into the Taiwan Strait. The township has a well connected transport network, including Jhongshan Freeway with the Tainan Interchange and Rende Service Area, Provincial Highway Taiwan-Route 1, East-West Expressway, and two Taiwan Railway stations, Bao’an and Jhongjhou.

 The History
Over one century ago, a scholar surnamed Ke from the area was a successful candidate in the Imperial civil service examination. He set up a local classroom to teach ethics and leading a moral existence, hence the place was named “Rende Village” to propagate his thinking. During the Japanese Occupation, there were frequent changes to the administrative division, and after the Retrocession, the area was renamed Rende Township.
